BBC radio 7 change to BBC 4 extra

BBC 4 Extra given the mighty recourses of the BBC and there marketing department who came up with the ground breaking new name for radio7. I would strongly recommend another round of cost savings aimed at the relevant department.


Now I know that things have to change, that they have announced that radio 4 needs to target a younger audience and an audience outside of the south of England. I actually live in the south though I come from the north and I am under 50 so I should be the type of person they are aiming for.



I actually like radio 4 and also like radio 7 though I would like to see changes to the programming, I would like to see the end of woman’s hour a truly sexist program and one that any person under the age of 30 would find truly outdated, other programs in the outdated category would be just a minute and desert island discs.



So the great strategic planners at the mighty BBC have harness all there recourses and come up with radio 4 extra, this implies that it is radio 4 with a bit more stuff, what a waste of opportunity taking two excellent channels and producing something that is less than the sum. Given that digital radio is perceived as a younger audience why not move all the old junk from radio 4 to radio 4 extra, I doubt this is going to be a winning formula.



Would it not have been a better idea to have undergone some extensive market research targeting the geographic areas and age groups, analysing this data and then producing a strategic plan to implement over time.
